When in Rome

As much as I love France, sometimes it's nice to trade in the joie de vivre for a little taste of Italy's dolce vita. Only a 2-hour flight from Paris, Rome is close enough for a long weekend, but far enough away to really feel like you're on vacation.

Planning a trip to the Eternal City? Check out a few of my favorite places below.

Spring Has Sprung at Parc Monceau

Paris' recent weather has been nothing short of marvelous, and in typical Parisian fashion, everyone is heading for their local parks and gardens. One worth a visit is the lovely Parc Monceau. It's surprisingly stroller friendly and full of gorgeous statues, water features and flowers.

Delicious Dim Sum at the Shangri-La Paris

After enjoying an outstanding vegan tea time at La Bauhinia back in March, my husband and I were delighted to receive an invitation to discover one of the Shangri-La Hotel's other award-winning restaurants, Shang Palace.

Open since 2011, Shang Palace offers authentic Chinese cuisine by the talented Chef Samuel Lee Sum.

Arriving just after noon, we were led into the stunning dining room, where the tables were set with traditional chopsticks, warm towels and golden chargers. The meal began with fried tofu and spicy sauce, we then ordered the Menu Dim Sum, and settled in for the next 7 courses.

Each plate was artfully presented, although my photos don't do them justice. The ambience was elegant, and the service was exceptional, as always.

Whether you're seeking an introduction to traditional Cantonese cuisine, or dining as an old pro, Shang Palace is the perfect place to go.
