Tea for Two at The Lobby

Growing up with an English father, I have long enjoyed the tradition of savoring a perfectly steeped cup of tea. But more than just sipping this classic beverage, I am charmed by the sophisticated ritual of indulging oneself in a proper linen, china and sweets Afternoon Tea.

Residing in Paris, I have some of the most sumptuous tea rooms at my doorstep that would fill any chic Parisian, or other, with glee. From luxurious world-renowned hotels (Le Bristol, Georges V, Hotel Daniel…) to long-established salons de thé (Ladurée, Angelina,…), some of the world’s most delicately perfumed infusions and palette-pleasing creations are just a short outing away.

This past weekend, my husband and I ventured out to The Lobby in the newly opened Peninsula Paris for a special 1st anniversary treat. On the menu: dainty finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones slathered with clotted cream and an abundance of sinful desserts that would make any foodie dream.

From the décor to the fare, the attention to detail was magnificent. A delicate leaf pattern on the menu cover was subtly revisited on the linens, and a live 3-piece band brought us back to the elegant days of yesteryear.

The miniature sandwiches were light and simple, but so noticeably prepared with care. Flavorful scones perfumed with orange zest were quickly devoured with large dollops of cream and strawberry jam. And perching atop the silver 3-tiered platter, macarons, sweet sandwiches, carrot cakes, chocolate rochers and cheesecake completed the spread.

As our leisurely afternoon tasting was coming to a close, we were touched to receive a beautiful anniversary surprise- an exquisite gold-dusted dark chocolate wafer, reading “Joyeux Anniversaire!”. The perfect (and delicious) end to a perfect day.
